You Can Actually Feel Better
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as: "the state of
complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence
of disease or infirmity." The WHO continually rates the United States as
having one of the lowest general health indexes of any industrialized
nation. In other words, the general health of most Americans is poor.
In our modern society you are constantly subjected to three kinds of stress:
physical (from accidents and injuries), emotional (from relationships), and
chemical (from air, food, water and internally generated pollution).
As stress accumulates, your body reaches a breaking point and develops
symptoms, such as: headaches, fatigue, neck and back pains, allergies,
digestive problems, disturbed sleep, and negative emotions. You may have
learned to live with your symptoms, accepting that you have "normal"
headaches, "normal" back pain, or "normal" PMS. These problems may be
common, but they are not "normal."
Only when the symptoms interfere with our work or play do we seek help from
a doctor. The conventional doctor administers tests and matches the results
with a medication. Often, the drug only controls the symptoms. If you had
chronic indigestion, you might take an antacid after eating, but you will
experience indigestion after the next meal. The drug has not corrected the
cause of your problem, your stomach's inability to function properly.
Symptoms are a signal that your body has been unable to
function properly for quite some time. Our society's emphasis has been on the removal of symptoms rather than on
helping your body function better. Health can be achieved and maintained
when your emphasis shifts from simply removing symptoms to helping your body
function as close to 100% as possible.
Your body has an amazing natural ability to maintain normal function. This
ability is demonstrated whenever you cut yourself. Automatically, the blood
coagulates, the wound closes and the skin regenerates. Your body heals from
the injury, usually without a scar.
As a Doctor of Acupuncture, my role is to assist your body's natural ability
to heal and function better. My goals are to alleviate your symptoms,
correct the cause of your problem, help minimize any recurrence of your
problem, and help you function as close to 100% as possible.
