(NCCAOM), and Certified in Auriculotherapy by the Auriculotherapy

Dr. Maguire has served the South Florida community since 1979, offering
drug free, natural health care for the whole family. He specializes in
acupuncture (Needles OptionalTM), Auriculotherapy, herbal medicine,
dietary recommendations, and lifestyle counseling, all of which assist
the body's natural ability to heal and function normally. Dr. Maguire's
treatments are effective for most health problems: all types of muscle
aches and joint pains, respiratory difficulties, digestive problems,
sexual dysfunction, infertility, allergies, fatigue, stress reduction,
and various addictions. He has extensive experience treating pregnant
women and children.
Dr. Maguire received awards from community organizations for speaking
engagements designed to raise public awareness of acupuncture and
natural health care. He appeared on radio talk shows in South Florida,
and authored newspaper and magazine articles on the subject of
acupuncture. Dr. Maguire was featured on Channel 12 Eyewitness News and
Channel 5 Action News programs. His biographical sketch was included in
"Who's Who in the South and Southwest."
Dr. Maguire graduated Northeastern University and New England School of
Acupuncture. Since 1971, he has completed seminars on Oriental
philosophy, herbology, nutrition, bodywork, homeopathy, iridology, and
traditional and modern acupuncture. He studied under Dr. James Tin Yau
So, Dr. Ted Kaptchuk, Dr. Donald Mayfield, Dr. John Christopher, Dr.
Bernard Jensen, Dr. Terry Oleson, Dr. Jim Shores and Michio Kushi. Dr.
Maguire taught acupuncture anatomy and physiology at the American School
of Oriental Therapy and served as an examiner for the State of Florida's
acupuncture license examination.
While Vice-President of the Florida State Oriental Medical Association
(FSOMA), Dr. Maguire helped formulate the association's by-laws. He
developed a statewide, grass roots lobbying effort during Sunset Review
of the Florida Acupuncture Practice Act. The result was a legislative
vote of approval for continued regulation of the acupuncture profession,
even though the Board of Acupuncture had been threatened with
deregulation due to an excessive operating deficit.
As a Member of the Board of Acupuncture, Dr. Maguire helped establish
many of the rules regulating the practice of acupuncture in Florida. He
was liaison between the NCCAOM, the Department of Professional
Regulation, and the Board of Acupuncture during negotiations that
concluded with the acceptance of the NCCAOM examination as the state
acupuncture license exam.
For five years, Dr. Maguire served as President of the FSOMA and
stimulated a six-fold increase in membership. He worked with the
association's lobbyist, Department of Professional Regulation and the
Florida Legislature to draft and successfully lobby for legislation that
would simplify administration of the acupuncture licensing process,
improve the Board of Acupuncture's financial position, stimulate the
growth of the acupuncture profession, raise the professional status of
the practice of acupuncture, and improve insurance coverage for
acupuncture patients. Dr. Maguire is recipient of the FSOMA's first
"Acupuncturist of Distinction" award and an FSOMA award of "Special
Recognition."
As Member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of
Oriental Medicine (AAOM), Dr. Maguire served as Membership Chairman. He
restructured the association's membership categories, benefits, and
dues, doubling the number of members. While a member of the By-Laws
Committee, he helped redefine the organization's purpose and goals, and
rewrote the by-laws. He co-authored the AAOM's Oriental Medicine
Practice Act, a model bill for state acupuncture legislation.
